Welcome to Studio Flint. I'm excited to share what we've been working on over the last eight months.
This is no longer a one-man show
With the help of Corné Prinsloo, who's been applying his design skills in the studio since last October, I've switched from a solo freelance practice to running a design studio. That change under the hood has been accompanied by some hard work figuring out what we're about and translating it to a new name and brand for the studio.
We're putting a stronger emphasis on our strategic skills
My work has always relied heavily on having a defined purpose, but in the last two years, this has become a more important part of my services. This is where we offer the most value, and it makes our design work more effective and easier to do. Thanks to the success of this approach, we're also spinning it off with stand-alone strategy workshops.
We're going international
I'm relocating to Israel this August, but not leaving South Africa altogether. It will be business as usual, since most of our communication is phone- and email-based already. I'll be available at local call rates on a Johannesburg-based phone number and our bank details will stay the same. Corné and I have been testing and tweaking our remote setup for a while, with a weekly work-from-home day, and our Skype meetings are great, whether for presenting work, brainstorming, or general updates.
There's lots more to say about these changes. Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing some of our thinking behind these changes, as well as how we've approached some of the practical issues in adapting our workflows for a distributed team.
But for now, you're invited to look around our site and to subscribe for updates, in which we'll share things that we've found interesting and we think you will too, and very occasionally blow our own trumpets about recently completed work. We won't nag you with surveys or spam, and we'll never share your details with anyone else.
Open for business
In the meantime, we're fully booked and working on several projects due to launch in the next two months, but ready to schedule work for August and September.
If you'd like to discuss a project, let's chat and get it booked in.
